SENIOR EXPO 2005
Bloomington, IN - The Monroe County Citizen Corps Council will be exhibiting at the Bloomington Senior Expo 2005 on Friday, May 20 from 11 a.m. 4 p.m. at the Bloomington Convention Center. The Senior Expo was created in 1974 and is celebrating its 31st anniversary of introducing products and services available in the community and is a n invaluable source of information on health and wellness, recreation, travel, finances, and fun.

In keeping with the national Citizen Corps guidelines to increase civic awareness in disaster and emergency preparedness, Mark Brostoff, Chair, Monroe County Citizen Corps Council, announced today that "...this opportunity to work closely with RSVP and other community agencies is exactly the type of civic involvement and call to volunteerism that the federal government was hoping for when they funded the National Citizen Corps program. Through the joint efforts of local Citizen Corps volunteers and civic organizations, thousands of seniors in our city will receive vital fire prevention and disaster planning material to make their homes safer."
The Monroe County Citizen Corps Council partners with community resources in developing programs in response to disasters, such as the tornados and floods of recent years. Georgia Schaich, a RSVP volunteer is part of Citizen Corps because we are committed to finding creative ways we can help prepare our community for disasters or hazards of any kind big and small. Schaich continued, this partnership is an excellent example of volunteers working in our community to support the efforts of our professional care-givers to ensure important material is distributed throughout our community.
